TDLR: I got a defective Netgear XR500 router, now I'm Stumped between exchanging it for the same unit or the Netgear X8 in a house that does a good amount of daily streaming and gaming.
I have a Plex server running at all times and roughly 30ish devices on the network and a fibre 350/350 connection.Īny feedback or recommendations between the two routers would be appreciated.

I'm in a household which will generally have 2 people gaming (PC and PS4 mostly) + 2 people streaming at peak times. Other than that it seems like the much better option on paper. The retailer I purchased it at is allowing me to exchange the unit but I noticed the slightly older Netgear X8 available for $299CAD.Įverything tells me I should go for the X8 even though it has a slightly weaker cpu at 1.4ghz vs the xr500's at 1.7ghz and lacks DumaOS (which I find clean and intuitive). I reconfigured the network but the same thing happened yesterday. The other week after a reboot the router decided to revert to factory settings as if it were never setup to begin with. After a couple factory resets I just accepted I'd have to reboot the router weekly myself to keep a connection.
